Refined Sugar Is Bad For Liver

So the first thing which you shouldn’t eat is refined sugar or white sugar. If you use refined sugar in a larger quantity it causes fat buildup in the body tissues specially around the liver.

Liver has a specific quality of converting fructose in to fat, and this results in accumulation of fatty tissues around the liver which is typically called as fatty liver disease.

Fatty liver can lead to several different serious liver problems including cirrhosis and liver failure. In fact some studies have indicated that sugars have the same kind of effect on the liver as alcohol.
So you should stay away from foods that are high in refined sugar content such as desserts, sweets, soft drinks and packaged fruit juices.

Certain Herbs and Supplements Can Cause Liver Damage

Apart from sugar certain herbal supplements and herbs can also damage your liver. Now it’s a bit shocking and surprising thing because we often assume that ayurvedic supplements or herbs
doesn’t have any side effects.

But if you start using these herbs, supplements, and products in a wrong way or if taken without a doctor’s advice, this can also cause problems in your liver.

For example, Giloy (Tinospora Cordifolia) is a popular ayurvedic herb which people often used to enhance immunity. Especially during corona time, giloy was highly promoted and it was told that, it enhance your immunity system and diseases like Covid-19 can be avoided if you consume Giloy.

But do you know that if you start using giloy in higher quantities, or if you start using it in an improper way then it can damage your liver too?

So if you use any herb or any herbal supplements then make sure that you consult with your doctor.
If you already have a pre-existing disease, then you have be more careful but even if you don’t have any problem in that case too, you should ask your doctor first about the herb that you want to take.

Vitamin A Supplements & Your Liver

It is not only Ayurvedic medicine that damages your liver. If you are taking supplements of vitamin-A for a long time then this too can damage your liver. Taking vitamin-A supplements for a long time damages liver cells and the liver starts to develop diseases.

In Fact not only vitamin-A, but if you are using any multivitamin supplements daily which has vitamin-A in it, and you take it for a long time, then also it cause side effects on your liver.

So if you want to take a vitamin-A supplement, then try to have it in a natural form. Try to take it from natural sources.

Generally, all kinds of yellow and red vegetables have a large amount of vitamin-A content in them. So you can add them in your daily diet.

But, for any reason, if you must take vitamin-A supplements, and you have to take it for a long time,
then make sure not to continue with it for more than two months at a time. Because if you take it more than that then it can damage your liver. So you should give a break of around 15 days to 1 month before you start taking the supplement again.

Soft Drinks & Paracetamol

Excessive consumption of soft drinks may also cause non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). So you shouldn’t take drinks, like cola’s and all or should take it in the minimum quantity.

Other than cola & other soft drinks, Acetaminophen (paracetamol) which is often regarded as a safe over-the-counter selling medicine can also damage your liver cells. If you often use it for headaches, colds or fever make sure to take it only in the recommended dosage or take it as per your doctor’s advice.

If you already have any liver disease then in that case, you have to stay away from the use of paracetamol by all means.

Trans Fats: Worst Enemy Of Healthy Liver

Trans fats are also very harmful to your health, especially to the liver. So by all means, you have to stay away from trans fat too. Trans fats are synthetic fats that are manufactured artificially in factories.

Trans Fats are usually produced by hydrogenating vegetable oils, and scientifically it is called Partially hydrogenated vegetable oil.

Trans Fat do the job of increasing weight in your body, it deteriorates your cardiovascular health,
it accumulates inside your blood vessels and this can lead to diseases like heart attack and stroke.

Trans Fat is usually found in bakery products and packaged food. So you should stay away from things like these. Companies use a very good trick nowadays to hide whether their products contain trans fat or not. They write partially hydrogenated vegetable oil instead of trans fat on the label of their products,
which is actually a scientific name for trans fat.

So if you see “partially hydrogenated vegetable oil ” written on any food product, that means it contains trans fats and you have to stay away from this.

Alcohol

Last but not least alcohol is also very harmful to your liver health so you have to avoid it too. If you consume even a small amount of alcohol then in that case too, over the period of time you can see the effects of it on the liver slowly.

So you have to try to quit alcohol completely. If you can’t quit it completely, and if you must have it,
in that case, if you are male then, you shouldn’t take more than two drinks in a day and if you are female then you shouldn’t take more than one drink in a day. If you are taking more than this, it may cause a severe impact on your liver health.
