Tulsi For Diabetes Control

The herb that I am going to tell you to reduce high blood sugar is Tulsi.
It is a very common and easily available herb which is found in or around almost every house in India.

Tulsi is one of the most common and great herbs used in Ayurvedic medicine. You all know that Tulsi (Holy Basil) is an anti-inflammatory herb and it also enhances your immunity system. So most commonly it is used to treat common infections like cold, fever and cough. But recent research shows that Tulsi also stimulates the beta cells of your pancreas.

The beta cells of the pancreas are those cells which produce and secrete insulin to lower blood sugar.

So when Tulsi stimulates these cells, your body produces the right amount of insulin which eventually helps in better sugar control.

Tulsi also reduces insulin resistance in your body. Insulin resistance in the body is another major factor for developing diabetes mellitus.

High blood sugar is also associated with increased inflammation inside the body. Since Tulsi leaves are anti-inflammatory, it also helps to reduce this inflammation.

What Research Says About Tulsi’s Effect On Diabetes Control

To investigate the effect of Tulsi (Holy Basil) on high blood sugar a study was conducted at Nottingham University.

In this research, 60 persons were taken and these 60 persons were divided into two groups.

One group was told to continue their existing medication only and the other group was given 250 mg of tulsi extract along with their regular medication. The experiment was conducted for 90 days and after that, it was observed that a significantly better reduction in blood sugar was found in those who were given tulsi extract along with their regular medicines.

This led to the conclusion that tulsi has the ability to lower your high blood sugar.

But one thing you need to keep in mind is that if you are suffering from diabetes then you can not rely only on tulsi leaves for controlling blood sugar. You can add Tulsi leaves as a supplement along with your existing diabetes medicines to achieve better sugar control.

But, if you have pre-diabetes or if you have blood sugar in the initial stage, you can start using the Tulsi leaves only.

How To Use Tulsi Leaves To Control Diabetes

Now the question is how to use Tulsi for diabetes control. Tulsi is an excellent ayurvedic medicine for diabetes.

You can use Tulsi in different ways. You can use it by taking Tulsi supplements, or if you have its sapling in your home then you can directly eat its leaves too.

Many people believe that eating basil leaves will have a bad effect on their teeth because Tulsi leaves are thought to contain mercury in them. But this is anot completely true.

Tulsi leaves can contain mercury in them only if the soil where it is grown contains large amounts of mercury. Normally, we grow Tulsi leaves in our homes where there are very low chances of having a high amount of mercury in the soil. So generally speaking, it is not much of a concern for most people. But if the tulsi plant is growing in polluted soil, then it can cause this issue.

If you want to use Tulsi leaves, then there are some different methods that I am going to tell you about today.

The first method is- if you have a sapling in your house take four fresh leaves of it and chew them early in the morning on an empty stomach
and then drink normal water.

Another method is to take four of its leaves and make a decoction of it.
To make the decoction, boil a cup of water, then put these leaves in that water and boil it for some time. When it had 2-3 boils, you can sieve it and drink it.

You can also take it on an empty stomach in the morning or you can take this decoction in the evening too.

The third method is that you soak 4-5 leaves of Holy Basil in water at night, and drink its water in the morning on an empty stomach by sieving.

You can also add a tablespoon of fenugreek seeds to this water while soaking at night to increase its blood sugar lowering effect.

How Long Should You Use Tulsi To Control Blood Sugar?

Friends, whenever I’m talking about a herb, supplement, or product, a very common question often asked is how long do you have to take this?

If you are taking Tulsi (Holy Basil) to lower blood sugar then definitely you can take it regularly for at least 2 to 3 months. Natural herbal supplements don’t give you immediate benefits. It takes some time for these types of herbs to show their full potential.

Conclusion

Tulsi is a great choice for all diabetic patients. It helps improve pancreatic function, insulin sensitivity, and overall health and immune system which is crucial for a person suffering from diabetes.

Always remember to consult your doctor before adding any home remedy or supplement to your diabetes treatment. And make sure to follow a healthy diet and lifestyle.
